Russell is continuing to explore themes of domestic decay that were pursued in his recent exhibition, Budget Decadence, at The Hammer Museum. For his first exhibition with Circus Gallery, Christopher will be showing three new “stacks” in our Mezzanine Gallery. Russell’s “stacks” are composed of identical photographs of empty domestic interiors that have been manipulated in a range of different ways, from elaborate and detailed drawings scratched into the photographic surface to more harsh gestures such as running the photographic print over with a car.

Additionally, this show will introduce new editions of Russell’s text-wallpapers, short fictional texts authored by Russell and then transformed -letter by letter, into wallpaper patterns. These large editions of text-wallpaper are intended to make Russell’s signature works available at a reasonable cost, keeping with his history of ‘zines and independent publications.
